SUMMARY

Fabricates and assembles metal products, and supports others doing the same, by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Operate welding equipment (MIG, TIG &/or Spot) to weld components together.
  • Sets up welding equipment
  • Blueprint reading.
  • Lifts, positions, and removes pieces for welding.
  • Marks reference points to assist in layout.
  • Loads, stacks, and transports stock and work in process by hand or truck.
  • Attaches grappling equipment to pieces to prepare piece for moving by crane or jib.
  • Grind, clean, polish parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools
  • Performs visual inspection of all components handled and some dimensional inspections using simple measurement devices
  • Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment. Performs other routine duties.
  • All other duties as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months experience in MIG and/or TIG welding steel, stainless and/or aluminum and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Position Summary

The Weld Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing the daily operations of the welding department to ensure production goals are met safely, efficiently, and with high quality. This position oversees welders and support staff, coordinates work schedules, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, and supports continuous improvement. The Weld Supervisor also plays a key role in training, coaching, and developing team members while maintaining a positive and productive work environment.


Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead and manage a team of welders, helpers, and support personnel to meet production targets.
  • Monitor attendance, timekeeping, and daily work assignments.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and disciplinary guidance when needed in coordination with HR.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and participate in employee development plans.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.

Production Management

  • Plan, schedule, and assign work based on production needs and job priorities.
  • Ensure all work is completed on time and according to specifications.
  • Collaborate with planning, engineering, and quality departments to align operations.
  • Monitor work in progress to ensure compliance with weld procedures, blueprints, and quality standards.
  • Assist welders with technical challenges and provide hands-on support when required.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
  • Recommend and implement new tools, equipment, or processes to improve workflow.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to production, quality, and safety.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all company safety policies and ensure PPE usage.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, audits, and equipment checks.
  • Ensure all welding operations comply with OSHA, company, and industry safety standards.
  • Address hazards promptly and report incidents or near-misses as required.

Training & Development

  • Train new and existing employees on welding techniques, blueprint reading, and quality expectations.
  • Develop cross-training plans to build a flexible and skilled workforce.
  • Stay current on welding technologies, certifications, and industry best practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises the activities and performance of the Weld department employees. Responsible for staffing, training, performance management, and disciplinary actions in alignment with company policies.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience based on tenure and industry knowledge.
  • Minimum two (2) years of previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Hands-on welding experience required; welding education or certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting blueprints and welding specifications.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend technical documents, work instructions, and correspondence.
  • Capable of writing clear and concise reports and communications.
  • Comfortable presenting and explaining information in small group or one-on-one settings.

Mathematical Skills

  • Proficient in basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, volume, and other measurements relevant to welding and fabrication tasks.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent walking, reaching, and handling of materials is required.
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly, and heavier objects with assistance or lifting equipment as needed.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required during operations.

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, welding fumes, and airborne particles.
  • High noise levels typical of a manufacturing environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting & Financial Control

  • Lead month-end close and prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements
  • Own cost accounting, including job costing, WIP, and inventory valuation
  • Manage AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and internal controls
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
  • Analyze margins using standard costing and variance analysis

Manufacturing & Operations Finance

  • Partner with operations on manufacturing finance, labor efficiency, utilization, and margins
  • Support pricing, quoting, and operational decision-making
  • Maintain and improve ERP system processes
  • Develop KPI reporting and management dashboards

Insurance, Compliance & Corporate Filings

  • Oversee insurance programs, including coordination with brokers, renewals, certificates, and claims support
  • Ensure timely completion of insurance-related filings and reporting requirements
  • Satisfy government, regulatory, and other required financial or legal filings
  • Support contract administration and compliance related to financial and insurance obligations
  • Coordinate with external advisors on compliance, reporting, and risk management matter

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 7+ years of experience as a Controller or Senior Accountant in manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, job costing, and WIP
  • Experience owning month-end close and financial reporting
  • Comfort operating in a hands-on, owner-operated environment

Preferred

  • CPA or CMA
  • Experience in job shop or metal fabrication
  • Exposure to multi-entity or consolidated accounting
  • Experience overseeing insurance programs or compliance reporting
  • Interest in progressing to a CFO role
